Leon Bowen , 91 of Hampton, Virginia died unexpectedly April 3, 2022, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.  He was born July 29, 1930, in East Arcadia, North Carolina the son of Allison and Susie (Hatcher)Bowen.

Leon was educated in East Arcadia (Bladen) school system.  Leon worked for Newport News Ship Building & Dry Dock for 40 years.  During that same time, he worked at Rich's Supermarket, Cheatem Oil, Quick Serves (as a manager) and G's Transportation.  For over 60 years he was a Deacon and a very activity member/mentor of Shalom Baptist Church.  Leon was confidante to not only those in his community but in the surrounding areas.  He was always ready, willing, able to lend an ear or hand to anyone in need.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Lillie A. Bowen, a son Leonard C. Bowen, a daughter-in Dorothy Bowen, and son-in law James R. Carter III, three sisters Geraldine Webb, Marilyn Johnson, and Jeannie Hall. Two brothers Wilbert and Louis Bowen.

Leon is survived by a daughter Anna Carter of Atlanta, GA.  Three grandchildren, one that him and his wife raised as their daughter Bronte` Ricks (Christopher Ricks Sr.) of Severn, MD, Kim Fox-Bowen and Chamia Bowen of Hampton, VA.  Seven great-grandchildren, Ricky, Rashawn, Shovonte`, Rakim, Crista, Christopher Jr., and Venus, seven great-great grandchildren, and a of host nieces and nephew.

Viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  A funeral service will be held at Cooke Brothers Funeral Chapel, Newport News, VA on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., by the Dr. Derrick Perkins Interment will follow in the Hampton Memorial Gardens.
