A TIME FOR DEPARTURE:
At the age of 99 wonderfully blessed you years Doris Marie Elam Edwards transitioned from earth to heaven to take her final resting please on Saturday September 18th 2021.
A TIME TO BE BORN:
Doris was the oldest of six children born to the late David and Mary Elam on May 3, 1922.
A TIME TO LEARN:
Doris was educated in the public schools of Newport News Virginia attending Booker T Washington elementary in graduating from Huntington high school class of 1941.
A TIME TO LOVE:
Doris was married to her high school sweetheart Richard Allen Edwards and was blessed with daughters Sandra and Beverly.
A TIME OF SALVATION:
Doris accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age baptized by Reverend Isaac Ruffin pastor of First Baptist Church East End. She loved her church and church family. She served as a former president of the Golden Key Ministry and faithfully attended service until failing of her health.
A TIME FOR WORK:
Doris was employed as cafeteria manager of Dunbar elementary and then Huntington middle school, where she introduced the faculty and students to "Yock-A-Mein" on the school menu. Doris was an avid cook love to prepare meals and desserts for family and friends.
A TIME TO MOURN:
Doris was a devoted and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. Doris was preceded in death by her mother and father David and Mary Elam, husband Richard Allen Edwards Jr., daughter Beverly Edwards Tyson, three sisters Florence Hopson, Antoinette Stallworth Inez Holly and brother David Elam Jr. Doris leaves to cherish her memories, daughter Sandra Stephenson (James), granddaughter Pia Stephenson, her loving and dedicated caregiver, grandson's Jon Stephenson (Samantha) of Arverne, NY, Kenan Tyson, (Ivy) of Winchester, VA; Lucian Tyson (Chelsea) of Los Angeles. CA. Four great grandchildren Jalen Tyson, Kellen Tyson, Drew Tyson and Jadyn Stephenson. Sister Montrose Hilton of Norfolk, VA, many great nephews, nieces and special friend Shelia Smalls.
Viewing will be held Friday, September 24, 2021, from Noon until 6:00 pm at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the funeral chapel. A private interment will be held at a later date.
