Willie Clee Vick, 97, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his home at 4302 Hines Avenue, Newport News, Virginia. He was born August 9, 1928, in Nashville, North Carolina, the son of the late Tommie L. Vick and Sarah Powell.

Mr. Vick worked for the City of Newport News Water Treatment Department for more than thirty years before retiring. Denied formal schooling as a child, he labored on a Nash County farm until relocating in pursuit of better opportunities. After moving to Newport News, he became a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses; fellow congregants encouraged and assisted him in learning to read and write. Known affectionately in his neighborhood as the “Mayor of Newport News,” he greeted everyone with a warm smile and a handshake and welcomed newcomers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Arrington Vick; his second wife, Thelma Baines Vick; and a daughter, Donella A. Williams.

He is survived by two sons, McDonald Vick (Oveta) of Durham, NC, and Willie Vic Samuels (Jewel) of Newport News, VA; a daughter, Beverly Harrison of Nashville, NC; stepchildren including Sherry L. Jean, Alma Samuels and Harold Samuels Jr. of Newport News; seven grandchildren; twenty step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; twenty-four step-great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Newport News West Congregation, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 804 41st Street, Newport News, VA 23607. Brother George Washington will officiate. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM in Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
