Obituary

On Friday, September 13, 2024, at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Willie Junious Dolby, Sr transitioned from labor to rest. Willie was born on February 12, 1938, in Nash County North Carolina.  He was proceeded in death by his parents Pauline Alston Hill and Matt Hill, his wife, Harriet Mitchell Dolby, his son Willie J Dolby Jr and his sister Mattie Artis.

Willie was educated in the Newport News School System and graduated from Huntington High School in 1957.  He was an avid football and basketball player and loved to read comic books.  After graduating from high school, he entered the US Air Force there he served for 22 years and retired as a Tech Sergeant. During his time in the military, he served as a military police officer.  He served in the Vietnam War and received The Vietnam Service Medal.  After retiring from the military, he enrolled at Thomas Nelson Community College as a student and graduated with an associate's degree in computer networking.  He transitioned from student to computer instructor at Thomas Nelson for 24 years. Willie enjoyed being involved in his Huntington High School Alumni Association, where he was a life member. He was very active with helping to plan their class reunions. In addition, he enjoyed taking photos of his family and friends and the many locations he traveled. One of his favorite places to travel was Florida, where he enjoyed fishing. He drove to Florida every year up until the time of his passing.  Willie enjoyed computer, networking, cooking, and watching movies.  Willie also loved the Washington RedSkins.

Willie leaves to cherish his precious memories, his children Dr. Shonna Johnson (Wallace), Chesapeake, Virginia, Michael Dolby, Accokeek, Maryland, and Samual Hicks, Newport News, Virginia.  He is also survived by his brother Wilson "Gator"Hill and his sister Mabel "babysis" Artis both of Hampton Virginia.  Willie was blessed with 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. As well as a host of extended family and friends.

Viewing will be held Monday, September 23,2024 at 10:00 with the funeral service starting 11:00 a.m. at Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist, 3100 Butternut Drive, Hampton, Va. Interment will be held in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
