Mr. William Lewis Canady, Sr.,
"Bill"
, entered eternal rest on Sunday, August 27, 2023 in the comfort of his residence. He was born September 21, 1946 Tyson, North Carolina to the late Joseph B. and Betty C. Talton.
He attended the Newport News Public School System. He gave his life to Christ at an early age, later becoming a licensed minister. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia. He served in the United States Army.
Mr. Canady retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding after 44 years of faithful and dedicated service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was known for looking at old movies, reading the bible, and his love for "sweets".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph B. Talton and Betty C. Talton; his sisters, Carrie M. Planks, Leola Talton; and his son, William Canady, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Dorothy Mae Canady; his children, Sharon Canady, Rodney Canady, and Anthony Canady; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Josephine Taylor, Joseph B. Talton, Jr., Jacqueline Merritt (Johnny Merritt), and Crystal Davis; his brothers-in-law, Norman Price (Vernice), Vinson Price; his sisters-in-law, Mazie Sellers (Robert), and Anna Jackson "Henry"; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held 12 Noon Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
