Obituary

Wesley Leroy Diggs, Jr, affectionately known as Wes, passed away on July 17, 2024. The only son born to Etheline  and Wesley Leroy Diggs, Sr. on July 1, 1947.   He graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1965. He worked for the United States Post Office, Hampton University and utimately worked for many years at the Naval Weapons Station from which he retired in 2013.
Giving love another chance he met and married Delois Mavin Perry. Together they shared precious moments and memories of laughter and joy through their years together.
Wes was a giving man and never expected anything in return.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching westerns and football games on TV, especially the  Kansas City Chiefs.  He loved to eat seafood, fresh fruit, try new places to eat and experience different foods.

Wes accepted Christ at an early age, he was baptized at First Baptist Church East End.  Having been led by God, he joined First Baptist Church Morrison VA, under the leadership of Rev. Marcellus Harris, Sr.

Wes is preceded in death by his parents, Wesley L. and Etheline Diggs, Sr., and his sisters Jean Diggs Bethea and Vermont Diggs Moore and granddaughter Shauniqua Hooks.
Wes leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Delois Perry Diggs; sister Janice Diggs Felton (Maurice) of  Carrollton, VA; daughter Celestine Bland of Newport News; son, Wesley Leroy Diggs, III  of Atlanta, GA; son, Doremus Orlando Diggs of Gilbert, AZ; daughter, Diane Lachel Diggs Byrd of Hampton; bonus son Ernest Timothy Perry of Tampa Florida and bonus daughter Crystal DeShaun Perry of Atlanta, GA.; Mother-in-love, Beatrice Mavin; brother-in-love Alfred Mavin, Jr.; sister-in-love Sandra Perry; Eight grandchildren,  six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held Monday, July 22,2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, VA. 23607. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at First Baptist Church Morrison, 12720 Patrick Henry Drive, Newport News, VA. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
