Wanda Brooks Mallette found eternal peace on April 5, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born February 25, 1947 to the late Oliver Eugene Brooks and late Helen Harris Brooks, Wanda was a Hampton, VA native where she attended public schools. She graduated from Phenix High School in 1965 and then attended Hampton Institute (University) where she earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education 1969 and master's degree in 1977.
Wanda devoted 31 years to teaching first and second grade in the Newport News Public School System before retirement. After retiring from NNPS, she continued her career in education as an adjunct instructor at Christopher Newport University working with Student Teachers.
Wanda was actively involved in the church and community over the years. She was a faithful member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, past Brownie Troop Leader, member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Hampton Chapter, and other local social groups.
She was a devoted mother and leaves her son, Kevin Mallette (Stephanie) and daughter, Karyn Williams (Torre) to cherish her memories along with her brothers: Ronald Brooks (Shirley), and Stuart Brooks (Rose), grandchildren: Alexandria Mallette, Gavin Mallette, Tyson Williams, and Kyrie Williams; former spouse Herbert Mallette and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Jacqueline Brooks Draper.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:00pm at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Newport News, VA.
