Obituary

Virginia Mae Patterson was born in Darlington, South Carolina on November 23, 1936 to the late Sam and Mary M. Cotton.  She was the youngest of ten children.  Virginia departed this life October 31, 2025 at Coastal Care Home, 226 Menchville Road, Newport News, Va.

On  April 21, 1958 she was married to the late Wilbur O. Patterson, Sr.  Out of this union four children were born, Mary M. Williams; Wilbur O. Patterson Jr deceased,  Carl A. Patterson, and Sandra D. Patterson.

Virginia worked for the city of Newport News in the Public Works Department for twenty-eight years.

She joined Way of the Cross Church now named Living Waters Redeemed Apostolic Church of Christ where she has served on several ministries: Senior Choir, Women's Chorus, Pastor's Choir, Usher Board, and Kitchen Committee.  She attended regularly until her health declined.  However, she continued to support.

Virginia loved the Lord.  She was her happiest talking about the Lord and giving Him Glory, Honor and Praise.  Virginia loved family and was always concerned about their happiness.  So much so that it was because of her love and genuine concern for family that lead to the starting of having family reunions again after years and years of not having one.  You could always hear her saying 'I Love My Family.' Her favorite scriptures were Psalm 27:14 and John 14:1.

Virginia leaves to cherish her memories her daughters Dianne Wimbish; Pamela Whitaker, son Carl (Trina) Patterson; daughters Mary Williams and Sandra Patterson; twelve grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; cousins and friends. Sons in love Pastor Dean Rodgers, Johnnie Rodgers, Roy Cotton and daughters in love Gloria Hunt and Georgia Caldwell.

"Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything."
