Obituary

Valerie "Val" Grier was born in Lexington, Virginia on December 26th, 1955.  She passed away on Friday, August 30th in the comfort of her home.

Val graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, Virginia.  Throughout her adult years she served in the United States Army later followed by many years of volunteer service with the American Red Cross.  In the Army is where she met her beloved husband, Toliver Grier who she affectionately called "husband".  During her time with the American Red Cross, she assisted countless families through disaster recovery and taught CPR.  Prior to her medical retirement she worked several years for Riverside Health System as a Phlebotomist.  In addition to her career path, she also loved to bake and was known for her cakes and chocolate chip cookies.  She loved her grandchildren more than anything.  She hardly ever missed any of their events whether it be a school event or sporting event.  She even took on the role as team grandma.

She leaves to carry on her legacy 2 Sons, Mark Grier (Teesha) and Ernest "Beau" Cooper.  Daughter-in-love: Ebonie Henderson

Grandchildren: Terray (Way), Omari, AJ, Tyriq, Tayshaun, Marcus, Terry, Devi, Maycin, Kayden (bonus grandson), and Jalanay (bonus granddaughter).

Great Grandchildren: Terray Jr. (TJ), Damien, Trevon, Jaylee, Domminick, and Donovan.

Sister: Sherida Cooper

Brothers: Anthony "Tony" Cooper and John Henry "Pee Wee" Cooper

Bonus Sons: Will Gilliam, Rashard Boyd, Djuan Nunn  & Jerry Craig

A host of family and friends that loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents John H. Cooper, Stella Cooper and her beloved son Terry Henderson Jr.

Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life service starting at 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.
