Obituary

Ursula Dana Wimberly Jones was born June 23, 1961 to Ervin and Erline Wimberly of Newport News, VA. She was the youngest of three beautiful girls (Avis Wimberly, Corlis Wimberly) and resided in the East End Community.

Ursula received her education from Newport News Public Schools. She graduated from Menchville High School and went on to further her education at Old Dominion University. During that time she made a life decision to move to Louisiana with her fiance, Theodore "Tony" Jones Jr, who was in the United States Air Force. There, they were married and she gave birth to Tony (Alexandria), the first of eight children. Over the next 15 years, they welcomed seven more children; Thea, Thaddaeus, Trey (Ashley), Tristan, Tyler, Timothy(Cindetta) and T'Shara (Devareo).

Ursula also gave her life to the Lord in 1982 and was a member of the Church of Christ. She lived a devoted life that was an example for everyone around her.  She later worked for Hampton City Schools and Virginia Health Services. Affectionately known as "YaYa" , Ursula was an instrumental part in the upbringing of her grandchildren, a true matriarch.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Erline Wimberly; in-laws, Theodore Sr. and Suzanne Jones; grandparents, son, Tyler Jones; nephew, PFC Michael Smith Jr.; aunts, Virginia W. Rheinhardt, Shirley W. Coleman, Mary Davis; aunt and uncle Gladys and  David Duncan; and uncle, Norman Davis

She is survived by her husband, Theodore Jones Jr., 7 children, 12 grandchildren (Christopher, Adazjah, Ty' Shaan, Kyriese, Kayin, Anthony, Zareya, Durae, Darien, D'Nari, Alyannah, Yasir); sisters, Avis Wimberly-Williams (Darrell), Corlis Bernard (Daryl), Angela Scott (Lenwood), Saphoronia Austin, Leila Bryant; brother, Gary Furbush; nieces, Kasey Grover (Jermaine Grover,) Aitya Scott; nephews, Kayvon Ratcliff, Jamal Scott, Corey Bryant, Uriah Bryant, Ira Bryant and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
