On Friday, October 18, 2024, our beloved father, brother, and friend, Terry Andrews , affectionately known as "Chuck Berry" surrounded by his family was called home from labor to rest. He was born on December 26, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York to the late William Sr. and Essie Mae Bell Andrews.
Terry was raised in Robersonville, NC, where he attended school and began to work at a young age on the tobacco field to help his family. After moving to Virginia, he obtained his first job at the Newport News Waterworks, then later at the Newport News Dry Dock & Company in 1966. He worked in the X36 Cleanup Department, which later converted to X36 Riggers Department, until he retired with Forty years of service. Terry stated that "after I retire, I am going to sit on my front porch with my legs crossed and take me a Nip." Terry claimed the Lord Jesus as His savior. He loved playing his guitar and harmonica. He would often keep extra harmonicas in his front left shirt pocket. He would give them to all the children and adults that would play in his band. He liked listening to his music, dancing, especially the "Robot". He would often call you to listen to him play, no matter the time. His favorite gospel song is "On the Rough Side of The Mountain.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Essie Bell Andrews, a son Terry Andrews, Jr., two grandchildren; Kenya Andrews and Terrell Cherry, siblings, Avon, Johnny, Carlton, and Levora. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of twenty-three years; Mary "Booky" Magalean Andrews, one son; Terry Cherry (Pam) of Edenton, NC, five daughters; Teri (Lawrence) Miller of Richmond, VA, Tami (James) Powell of Newport News, VA, Evette Mallory of Wake Forest, NC, Shonda (Todd) Griffith of Locust Grove, GA, and Ashaki Goodman, of Columbus, GA, two sisters; Minerva Grimes and Lou Edna Glenn of Robersonville, NC, four brothers; William Andrews of Boston, MA, Curtis Andrews of Robersonville, NC, Ernest Spruill of Atlanta, GA, and Jeffery Spruill of Newport News, VA, nineteen grandchildren, Shareeta (Maurice), LaTonya, Micheal, Sharee, Ameka, Kaleesha, James Young Jr, James Powell, Jr. Tariq, Likita (David), Tiffany, Evander, Marquise, Quentin, Shontail, Brandon, Briania, Antonio, Andrew, Todd, Senita, thirty-eight great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life service starting at 12:00 noon Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
