Obituary

Early Monday morning, April 6, 2026, God called Teresa B. Crawley to her heavenly home. Teresa was born in Keysville, Charlotte County, Virginia, to the late Herman P. Hamlette, Sr. and Revella J. Hamlette. At an early age, her family relocated to Newport News, Virginia, where she was educated in the Newport News Public School System and proudly graduated from Carver High School. She later attended Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Affectionately known as “Honey” by family and friends, Teresa was a vibrant, warm, and loving soul. She had a unique way of making everyone feel welcome—greeting others with a smile and kindness as if she had known them for years. Her presence was truly special, and her spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

Teresa was a woman of many talents and creativity. She had a passion for sewing and developed her skills through classes that led to her employment with Chaffin Interiors. She later became an Alterations Manager at Rice’s Nachmans, where her craftsmanship and attention to detail were well known. Gifted with her hands, Teresa could create everything from clothing and costumes to drapery and upholstery for homes and automobiles.

Her talents extended far beyond sewing. Teresa was an exceptional cook, a gifted artist who brought her imagination to life through drawings, a beautiful singer, and an energetic dancer who brought joy wherever she went. Above all, she loved her family deeply and was a devoted caregiver to her parents, faithfully caring for them until their passing. Her greatest beauty was not only seen on the outside, but truly radiated from within.

Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, Herman P. Hamlette, Sr. and Revella J. Hamlette, and her brother, Herman P. Hamlette, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving husband, Irvin Crawley of Newport News, Virginia; her sister, Ursula Thomas of Newport News, Virginia; her brothers, Harold Hamlette (Stacey) of North Valdosta, Georgia, and Melvin Hamlette of Chesterfield, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Crawley of Newport News, Virginia and Pamela Faulk (John); one brother-in-law, Erston Crawley of Carrollton, Virginia; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends

Viewing will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 5405 Roanoke Avenue, Newport News, Va. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
