Teresa L.
Slaughter
d. Nov 5, 2026
Teresa Slaughter was born on February 18, 1957, to the late Dorothy Mae Boyd Grimes and Charles Batten. She was a 1975 graduate of Menchville High School and earned an Associate’s degree from Thomas Nelson Community College.
Teresa worked in retail for many years, particularly at Value City department store, and later retired from Walmart as a Customer Service Associate. She enjoyed being near the water and going crabbing, which she lovingly called her “peaceful time.”
She was a born-again Christian who made the most important decision of her life when she gave her heart and life to Jesus Christ. Through her faith, she developed a personal relationship with the Lord and found comfort, strength, and peace in His promises. Her love for God was reflected in the way she lived, the kindness she shared, and the faith she carried throughout her journey.
She understood that life was not always easy, but she trusted that God would never leave her nor forsake her. Her faith was her foundation, and her belief in Jesus Christ gave her hope beyond this earthly life.
Today, we find comfort in knowing that the same Lord she loved and served has welcomed her home. Though she will be deeply missed, her faith leaves behind a beautiful legacy and a reminder that accepting Christ is the greatest gift of all.
"For to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." — 2 Corinthians 5:8
May her life forever remind us to walk by faith, trust in God's promises, and keep our hearts anchored in Jesus Christ.
One of her favorite scriptures was Psalm 121:2: “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.”
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Andre Slaughter; her grandson, Shion Yamada of Tokyo, Japan; her sisters, Catherine Outerbridge, Eunice Richardson, and Valerie Batten-Banks; brothers, Charles and Lilton Batten. She will be lovingly remembered by extended family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain in the hearts of those who loved her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
Services will be private.
