Obituary

Sally Beatrice Macklin-Gray passed away peaceably on Saturday May 3, 2025.  She was challenged with several conditions while a resident at Waterview Nursing Facility in Hampton, Virginia.  She was born July 9, 1926 to the late John William and Willie Ellis Oakley in Spring Hope, North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one son-in-law and 12 siblings.

At 14, Sally left North Carolina and married Edward Howard Macklin, Senior.  They had six children: Edward Howard Macklin, Jr. (deceased), Delton (Teresa), Loretta (Tony, deceased), Paul (Maggie), Beulah Aletha, and Phillip (Claudia).  She leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Sally was known for her family recipes, especially chocolate banana and coconut pineapple cake, which she loved to make for family gatherings. She also shared songs of praise, creating lasting memories.

A believer from a young age, Sally was a member of Second Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia, before joining First Baptist Morrison also in Newport News, where she served faithfully until her health declined.

Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life service starting at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025 at First Baptist Church Morrison.  Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
