Ruth Elizabeth
Jones
d. Aug 4, 2026
Ruth Elizabeth Jones, known as “Ruthie” to some, has joined her heavenly Father on 8/4/2026 at the young age of 92. She was born to John and Mary Ervin in the beautiful state of York, South Carolina. She met and married her husband, Wilbur Jones, and they were devoted to each other for sixty-five years until his passing.
Ruth Jones was a dedicated member of the American Legion Auxiliary Denbigh Unit 368 for 30 years. She excelled in her roles as Chaplain and Historian, and she was one of the first pages for the Department of Virginia. She worked with the post when we hosted bingo, and it was her favorite thing to do on Sunday evenings. She was always involved with children, and when there were coloring contests, she happily reviewed all entries.
Ruth was a religious education volunteer at the Regimental Memorial Chapel when the family arrived at Fort Eustis in 1965. She strongly believed in education, and she kept this dream alive while working for the Williamsburg School System.
I would like to address her family and friends with this thought. Her strong character and upbringing have instilled an incredible strength within each of you. You are all successful, beautiful, and leaders in your own right. She has left you an astonishing legacy to carry on in your daily lives. To know her is to love her; she was a profoundly spiritual, truly dedicated, and passionate mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and, to some of us, more.
Let us keep this verse close to our hearts. 1 Corinthians 13:13 speaks to us with this: “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
This prayer speaks volumes for her blessed life and continued journey.
May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sunshine be warm upon your face
And the rains fall soft upon the fields and until we meet again…
May God hold you in the palm of his hand!
Amen
