Robert M. Brown, Sr., 83 , of Newport News, Va., was born on January 26. 1941.  He peacefully entered into eternal rest at his home on Saturday January 4, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Robert was proceeded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mae Alice Brown; brothers, Charles Johnson, and Clarence Johnson; sisters, Effie Bell, Denise Davis; and mother, Elizabeth English.

Robert was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School Class of 1959, where he excelled in basketball, and baseball. After high school, Robert went to work in the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock company as a pipefitter.  In 1985, he made a career change working for the Department of the Navy as an inspector until his retirement in 2004.  Post retirement, Robert became an entrepreneur starting R&M General Contractors.

In 1960, Robert married his wife, Mae Alice Webb, and from that union they were blessed with five children. Robert was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his sister, Diane Greene; five children, Bonita Brown, Juanita Jones (Kelvin), Robert Brown Jr. (Shirley), Teresa Richardson (Marque, Sr.), Janise Wallace (Ima). Robert leaves behind a loving legacy to his 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.  No public viewing.
