Rebecca Sarah Harrison

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ welcomed Rebecca into His kingdom on March 13, 2023. Rebecca of Newport News, Virginia; passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years old, surrounded by her family. She was loved by her family and friends, who will miss her dearly.
A devoted aunt, Rebecca was known for her steadfast love of her family. She lived a full life. Rebecca's greatest joys in life were her nieces and nephews as well as her wanderlust of travel. Born on March 31, 1933 on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina; Rebecca was the younger of two children within the union of James and Dora Harrison.
Rebecca's primary education began on Wadmalaw Island continuing at Burke High School in the city of Charleston, South Carolina, where she garnered inkling for Nursing. Deciding to pursue that career path, Rebecca moved to New York City.
There she enrolled in Hunter College also becoming a member of the Long Island "Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority" and earning a BS in Nursing. While working as an RN at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Rebecca dedicated to continue her Nursing career path and went on to earn her Master Degree.
In between trips to Asia, Alaska, Europe and Ireland (to name a few), Rebecca excelled to the position of Director of Nursing at Brookdale, she also taught student nursing at the University level. Not only did Rebecca use her hands to heal, she was also gifted in sewing, baking, needlepoint, arts & crafts; as well as the Gift of Gab.
As her health began to decline, Rebecca readily accepted an invitation from her favorite nephew and niece-in-law, Sam & Dayna Lance to relocate close to them in Newport News, Virginia. Although not as active, Rebecca went on many day outings. In Newport News she was always surrounded by family.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dora Harrison; sister, Mary Ella Lance; and nephew, Bernard Harrison.
Her memories will forever be cherished by her brother-in-law, Samuel Lance, Sr.; aunt, Shirley Jackson; nieces, Yvette Lance and Yvonne (Cheryl) Ward; nephews, Samuel Lance, Jr. (Dayna) and Dwayne "Don" Lance (Elise); great nieces, Jamie Ward, Lorea'l (Edward) Lance Kyle, Chelsea Lance, Samantha-Chant'e Lance, Raven Lance, Rielle Lance, Cheyenne; great-nephew, Dominique; great-great nephew, Landon Ward and best friend, Gladys Williams.
Final services for Miss Harrison will be provided by Fielding Home for Funerals, 122 Logan St. Charleston, SC, 843-744-2545.
