Obituary

Randy Blackwell, a Newport News native and Warwick High graduate, passed away on April 21, 2026, in Hampton, VA, following a military career in the US Air Force (1976–1983) and subsequent service with the Army Corps of Engineers. He is survived by his daughter, 3 siblings, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Family and Legacy

  • Parents: Preceded in death by Alexander and Mary Kathleen Blackwell.
  • Siblings: Preceded by Linda McGowan, Mary Stephenson, Lynn Watson, Alexander Blackwell, Jr., Fred, and Dino Blackwell. Survived by sister Cheryl Blackwell and brothers Greg and Pete Blackwell.
  • Children: Preceded by son Antonio Johnson (with Cynthia Crump). Survived by daughter Azure Lucas (Travis) (with Cereice Perry).
  • Grandchildren: James Winkey, IV (Katherine), Tzion Lucas (Niy), Jordan Lucas, Leilani Lucas, and Ariella Lucas.
  • Great-grandchildren: Jaime Winkey, Koa, Kiere, and Kingston Lucas.

Randy is also survived by a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Randy left a legacy of wit, laughter, and love.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., May 18, 2026 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel 1601- 27th St, Newport News, VA 23607. Internment will follow in Albert G. Horton, Jr.  Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434.
