Radford W.
Barnes
d. Oct 10, 2024
Radford Wayne Barnes was born November 19, 1969, to the late James Edward Barnes and Lossie Hall in Newport News, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Barnes.
Radford was educated in Newport News Public Schools, graduating from Warwick High School in 1992. After graduation, Radford began working at Busch Gardens in their bakery department. Radford loved working at Busch Gardens and could tell you everything about the park. He proudly gave away tickets he earned to family and friends during his 20 years of service. In addition, Radford was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he knew all the players, he knew the stats, he even had an opinion about who should be fired or traded.
Radford accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young man. During the early years of his life, he became a member of Zion Prospect Baptist Church. Recently during the time of his illness, Radford reiterated his belief in the saving power of Jesus Christ and said, "I am going to thank God for allowing me to be with Him and with pop."
On Thursday, October 10, 2024, God touched Radford ever so gently and told him it was time to come home. He took three deep breaths and slipped into the loving arms of our Lord.
Radford leaves to cherish, his step mother, Julia Barnes; eight brothers and sisters; James Tyson (Carrie), Evangeline Taft, Elvira Sedgwick, Cathy Toliver (John), Keith Shields (Karon), Rhonda Scales (Elwood), Lynn Moore, and Craig Shields (Vivian); one uncle, Robert Sedgwick (Gloria); one aunt, Mary Alice Moye; a special nephew, Keith Dixon, who looked after him; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a very special grandniece, Paitynn Cooper, he adoringly called "My little Angel".
For all who knew him, he was a kind and gentle man, who was passionate about his love for his family. He will be missed.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. held Monday, October 21, 2024 at Zion Prospect Church, 408 Darby Road, Yorktown, VA. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
