Pastor Joan Ellen Reeves, age 78 , went home to be with the Lord on June 4, 2024.  She was born in Kinston, N.C. on July 14, 1945, the daughter of John Allen Dowdell and Wealthy Lee Bryant, both deceased.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Oliver Reeves; and her youngest son, Jason Oliver Reeves.

Joan is survived by her children, Angela M. Washington (Fred), Oliver T. Reeves (Mia), Sharonda L. Reeves (Demonze), Cheryl L. Carter (DeRahn); 20 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren.

Joan attended George Phoenix High School and became an LPN after graduation.  She married her husband, Oliver Reeves in New Jersey and received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, shortly thereafter.  She became an Evangelist in the Assemblies of God, Pentecostal denomination.

In 1992, Pastor Oliver and Joan Reeves started Christian Unity Fellowship Church in Hampton, Va., where she faithfully remained the co-pastor until the death of her husband.  She was active in the Women's Aglow Ministry, and local fellowships in the Hampton, Va. area.

Her hobbies were swimming, she was also a member of a swimming club for seniors at the community center in Hampton for many years.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Church of Jesus in Hampton, VA.
