Obituary

Pamela  Cook Chavious, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, went to rest with the lord on February 20th, 2026, at home with loved ones. She was born on December 28th, 1953, to the late Herbert L. Cook Senior and Mabel E. Cook .

She received Christ at an early age and joined First Morning Star Baptist Church. She later joined Bethel Temple Church in the summer of 2002.

Pamela graduated from Gloucester High school in 1972 and continued her studies at Radford College. Pamela worked as a bank manager, but retired from what she loved the most, which was retail management. She was naturally funny and kept the crowd going. She loved people and as we all know she was very talkative; most people knew her from her pretty smile and laughter.

Pamela loved motorcycles, working in the yard, fishing, and travelling all over the world. She enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts, as well as sewing and creating oil paintings.  People would tease her and call her the "Yard Lady" and "Jane of all Trades". She would always reply and say, "I'm Herbert Cook's daughter" and laugh.

Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Cook Sr. and Mabel E. Cook, and her brothers, Kenneth L. Cook and Samuel C. Cook.

She is survived by her husband, Fred W. Chavious of Hampton; daughter, Tomeka L. Peterson (Tony) of Woodbridge, Va.; two grandchildren, Aureiana M. Peterson (Mei) of Hampton and Tony Peterson Jr. of Woodbridge; five great-grandchildren, Aiden, Sami, Harmony, Grace and Kai; brothers, Herbert L. Cook Jr. (Dorothy) of Gloucester, Albert E. Cook Sr. of Gloucester, Wayne Cook of Williamsburg, Va.; one sister, Tiny M. Wallace (Alvin) of Gloucester, Va.; sisters-in-laws, Betty Cook of Gloucester and Wendy Cook of Newport News, Va.; beloved nieces, nephews and their children; two dear close friends, Sherlene Kosler, and first cousin, Roslyn Billups, and a host of other beloved family and friends.

Pamela had a second family that she loved so much, the entire Chavious family of North Carolina.

A heartfelt and special thank you to her beloved son-in-law Tonys parents, Brenda Tucker and Wesley Peterson and extended family. She was thankful for the love and values you instilled in Tony, and she held close the unity and friendship that grew between our families.

She will truly be missed for her outgoing personality and love for life, but we can rejoice in knowing that she is living on through the countless memories, laughter and lessons she shared with us. Though she has left our sight, her spirit will always remain.

Please wear something blue in remembrance of Pamela.

The family would like to thank everyone for gestures of kindness during bereavement.

Viewing will be held Thursday, March 5th, 2026 from 11:00-5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 6th, 2026, at First Baptist Church East End, 3000 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, Va. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. A repast will be held for family and friends immediately following the Interment at First Baptist Church East End, 3000 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News, Va.
