Otelia
Turpin
d. Sep 5, 2023
Otelia Williams Turpin, 99, of Chuckatuck, Virginia, peacefully passed away on September 5, 2023, in Hampton, Virginia. Born on April 28, 1924 to Earnest & Maryetta Lyons, she was a determined individual who left a lasting impact on those who knew her.
In accordance with the family's wishes, there will be a private service held to commemorate her life. While we honor her memory, it is important to reflect on the remarkable person she was and the legacy she leaves behind. A devoted Christian, Otelia loved the Lord and was always excited to share her testimony of the goodness of God as expressed throughout her life. She was also a miracle worker in the kitchen. Times may have been tough, but she seemed to always have a delicious pot of smoked beans and homemade cornbread on the stove.... she also made a mean rice pudding.
She added dutiful wife to her impressive resume when she jumped the broom with her first love, Junius Williams (D), in 1940. Together they would make a way out no-way while raising four children. They leave behind Mildred, Alexander (D), Willie (D) and Darryl as well as their progeny-- grands and great grands. Later in life, Otelia remarried a good man, John Turpin, and stayed married until his passing.
Otelia's faith was evident in every aspect of her life. She faced challenges head-on and never backed down from pursuing her dreams. Her strength and resilience were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Though her absence will be deeply felt by her family and friends, Otelia's spirit will live on through the memories of all those she touched. She will forever be remembered for her unwavering courage and the positive impact she had on those around her. May Otelia Williams Turpin rest in eternal peace, knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
