Obituary

Ollie Dean Berry was born December 11, 1933, in Collins, Georgia.  She was one of ten children including one foster child in the family of the late Emmaline and Newton Jackson.  She attended schools in Tattnall County, then went on to attend college at Savannah state. Returning home she began substitute teaching for a time.

On Christmas day 1955, Ollie Dean Jackson was joined in holy matrimony to the late James Berry.  Under this union Four children were born, Brenda (Premature 1957), Felicia, and Chandra.

When James was honorably discharged in 1957, they chose to settle down in Hampton Roads.  She worked for the Newport News Public School system for over 25 years, before retiring in the mid-1980s.

An ever-devout Christian, she joined Zion Baptist church before latter joining, Little Zion Baptist Church in where she sang in the choir, ushered, and taught Sunday school faithfully for decades.

For all her life she enjoyed gardening and working outside perfecting her craft.  She was an avid baker and an excellent cook.

She departed this life in the morning of December 1, 2024.  Left to remember her are her daughters – Felecia, and Chandra Berry, her nieces, nephews, one grandson, Nicholas Honaker her brothers and sister's in-law, and one sister Miriam Delores Johnson.

Viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. up until the Celebration of Life service starting at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Little Zion Baptist Church in Hampton, VA.  Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
