Obituary

Lt. Col. (U.S. Army, Ret.) Moses Brown, Jr., 96, passed on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the Coliseum Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center, in Hampton, Virginia.

Mr. Brown was the son of Moses and Ida Irving Brown. He was a native of Waverly, Virginia and was formerly a longtime resident of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  He earned his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in biology and chemistry from Hampton Institute (now Hampton University) in 1950.  He received a Master's degree (M.Sc.) in biochemistry from Iowa State University in 1954.  He also earned a Master's degree in Public Health Administration (MPH) from Columbia University in 1962.  In addition to serving in the U.S. Army for 28 years, including a deployment during the Korean War, he worked for many decades with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources as an engineer and evaluations coordinator.

Mr. Brown is survived by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.  His family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs of The Devonshire and Coliseum Convalescent for the wonderful care and family support provided during Mr. Brown's time in both facilities.

A graveside service and interment will take place on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., in the church cemetery at Easter Baptist Church, RR 35, 13454 Jerusalem Plank Road, in Waverly Virginia.  Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Newport News, Virginia has been entrusted with the professional funeral services.
