Obituary

Our beloved Missionary Jo Ann McKinnon entered eternal rest, surrounded by loved ones, Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA. Missionary McKinnon was born August 30, 1956 in Norfolk Virginia to the late Elder Andrew Peeples and Minister Vivian Marie Peeples.

She attended the public school system in Newport News, VA., where she later graduated from Warwick High School. She received her cosmetologist license from Jan-Mar Beauty Academy. She then went on to received her degree in Psychology from Thomas Nelson Community College.

Our faithful servant of God; Missionary JoAnne McKinnon accepted Christ at an early age. With over 20 years in the ministry, she devoted her time to teaching the youth the importance of prayer. She found it a privilege to be under the tutelage of such a Holy Ghost filled leader, Overseer M.R. Hargrove until her passing. She then transitioned to House of Prayer #5 where she served under the late Bishop Columbus Arrington until he was succeeded by Bishop Russell Harris. Her legacy is a testament to the power of prayer and faith; and the impact of a life lived in service to others. Her legacy is carried on by the many lives she touched, the communities she transformed and the families she loved so dearly. She will be deeply missed by her family, friend and all who has had the privilege of knowing her. To know her is to love her. You will often catch her singing or humming her favorite song; Jesus, Jesus, Jesus by Timothy Wright.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Vivian Marie Peeples; her father, Andrew Columbus Peeples; her grandfather, Arnold Cornelius Taylor, her grandmother, Pearl Taylor; her aunt, Meredith Debraux; her siblings, Christopher Andrew Peeples, Wanda Smith, Rita Peeples, and Alton Taylor; her son-in-law, Eddie Clements; her nephews, Tavious Boswell, Tyrell Barry Shumate, and Malik Peeples; her cousins, Kimmie Debraux, Stephanie Debraux and Sandy Debraux.

She leaves behinds to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Jerry McKinnon; her beautiful daughters, Shawynette Peeples and Nisheeta Peeples; her doting sisters, Maxine Taylor, Sonja Goldstone, Tammie Hargrove, Scarlet Allen (Anthony), Nisheeta Peeples-Barnhill (Dante); her devoted brothers, Barry Peeples and Everette Peeples (Nedra); her grandchildren, De'Michael McKinnon-Peeples, TeShawn McKinnon, Alon Clements, Zhanae' Blizzard, Amir Blizzard and Armon Blizzard; her great-grandchildren,  Jhourni Peeples, JahNari Peeples, and Jahcori Beamon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church families and many friends.
