Maxine Lassiter, 63, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on January 1, 2025, surrounded by her family. Maxine was born in Newport News, Virginia, to the late Lucille Patterson and Moses "Pete" Harrell on August 22, 1961. She was the third of five children in a loving and faith-filled household. Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Lucille Patterson; stepfather, Roosevelt Patterson; father-in-law, Elder William D. Lassiter; sisters, Brenda Patterson and Barbara MacIntosh; brother, Larry Patterson; grandson, Zykoya' Patterson Green; and nephew, Dominique Patterson.
Maxine was a longtime resident of Newport News, Virginia, she was a beacon of joy and energy whose smile lit up every room she entered. Her warmth and vibrant spirit will forever be remembered by her family, friends, and community. A proud graduate of Warwick High School, she was a woman of immense ambition and unwavering determination. Maxine was known to her family and friends as "Red". Hardworking and focused, she pursued every goal with a passion that inspired those around her. Her drive and radiant energy were matched only by the boundless love she poured into her family, which remained the cornerstone of her life.
Maxine shared a beautiful marriage with her devoted husband, Kirkland Lassiter, who was not only her greatest supporter but also her soulmate. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to their family. She was blessed with one beautiful daughter, Loukeysela Patterson, whom she cherished beyond measure. Her love only grew with the arrival of her grandchildren, who were her greatest treasures. She adored them and embraced every moment spent with them, creating memories that will live on in their hearts forever.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Kirkland Lassiter; daughter, Loukeysela Patterson (Galvino); father, Moses "Pete" Harrell; mother-in-law, Loretta Lassiter; grandchildren, Autumn Patterson, Arkeim Patterson, Galvino Green Jr., and Genesis Green; sister, Gloria Jean Patterson (Denise); sister-in-law, Christina Lassiter; brothers-in-law, Darren Lassiter (Kim), Quintin Lassiter (Juliette), and Tye Lassiter (Tracy); and a host of great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
Maxine will be dearly missed, but her light will never dim in our heart's. As we remember Maxine, we celebrate a life well lived, a life dedicated to love, kindness, faith, and family. Though she has left us too soon, her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Home Going service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel 1607 27th Street. Newport News, VA. at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Rd. Hampton, VA.
