Obituary

Maxine McLaurin Faison, the matriarch of the Faison Family, entered this world in Newport News, Virginia, on July 9, 1944, to Grace L. Smith. As the eldest daughter among seven siblings—Vernon, Terry, Earline, Evette, and Robert McGeorge (Bobby-previously departed), with Jacqueline (Jackie-previously departed). —Maxine carried the warmth of her upbringing into every role she embraced. She loved her family with all of her heart.   Maxine's educational journey began at Newsome Park Elementary School, culminating in her graduation from Carver High School. She continued her studies at Hampton Institute (now Hampton University), where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and later pursued her Master's degree. These academic achievements laid the foundation for her remarkable career as a Registered Nurse in the Mental Health and Critical Care industry.

Maxine's professional path commenced at Riverside Hospital, where she demonstrated dedication and leadership. With extensive experience in Nursing Administration, Critical Care, and Mental Health Nursing, she possessed exceptional knowledge of nursing care, infection control, and Quality Assurance. Her tenure spanned decades, encompassing both contract work and a significant partnership with the DC government, where she remained committed to providing compassionate care throughout the Washington DC area.

Maxine leaves many warm and joyful memories to her husband, Richard Faison, and their two sons, Richard II , and Michael, two daughter in laws, Toni and Brenda, her 5 grandchildren, Auriel, Richard III, Michael II, Marques, Brittney, 7 great grandchildren, Her beloved mother Grace L. Smith, and her siblings— Vernon McGeorge (Regina), and Terry McGeorge (Naomi), Earline Coleman ( Joshua), Tonja Evette White (John)—Barbara Forbes, sister-n-law, two beloved aunts, Catherine and Willie(Sister), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends starting at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2024 at First Baptist Church Jefferson Park, 615-42nd Street, Newport News, Va. with the funeral service starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
