Obituary

Mary Smith Weaver Johnson, 86, known affectionately as "Bunny" or "Johnson" entered into eternal rest from the comfort of her residence on Monday, March 10, 2025. She will be remembered most for her kindness, beautiful smile and giving spirit.

Mary was the first born to the late Hubert and Marie Jenkins Smith on October 29, 1938 in Warwick, VA. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in 1970 and would share her testimony at every opportunity. She encouraged others to seek God as she had and testified that her life changed instantly.

Mary was educated in the Newport News school system where she graduated from Carver High School in 1957. Her love of children led her to start her own daycare of which often had a waiting list.

After retirement, Mary took care of her ailing husband, Ted, at home. She loved caring for her family and those around her.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Johnson; sister, Eunice Rylander; and younger son, Tony Renard Weaver. To cherish her loving memory; son, Kermit Ray Weaver of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Brian Alan Weaver (Jasmine), Angela Marie Weaver, and Christopher Noah Weaver; two great grandchildren, Breylan Malik and Zoë Rae Weaver; two sisters, Cynthia Hollis (Albert) of Newport News, VA and Sandra Douglass of Falmouth, VA; four nephews, Larry Smith of Newport News, VA, James Douglass of Northern, CA, Bryan Simpson of Newport News, VA, and Samuel Rylander of Newport News, VA; two nieces, Denise Haskins (Roy) of Falmouth, VA and Crystal Harris of North Carolina; one daughter-in-law, Denise Weaver; one godson, Isaiah Cooke; one goddaughter, Nichelle Jarrett; "one good best friend" and confidant, Deloris Palmer of Hampton, VA; as well as many cousins, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life service starting at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
