In Loving Memory of Mother Mary Edith Boone Green
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life and legacy of Mother Mary Edith Boone Green, who peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 22, 2026. At the age of 90, Mother Green answered the call of her Heavenly Father and heard the words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
Mother Mary Edith Boone Green was born on June 13, 1935, in Newport News, Virginia, to Jesse Boone of Newport News, Virginia, and Almeda Hoffer of North Carolina. She was the youngest of seven children, lovingly known as the baby of the family.
Mother Green was a lifelong nurturer whose warmth was felt in every room she entered. She had a special gift for making people feel seen, loved, and valued, whether through her kind words, her home cooked meals, her gentle wisdom, or her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She loved watching cowboy movies and cherished spending precious time with her grandchildren and family.
A devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, Mother Green dedicated her life to caring for others. She and her beloved husband built a strong and loving home while raising seven sons. Even after working the night shift as a nurse, she made sure her boys were prepared for school each morning before taking time to rest. She would rise again to care for her home and family, always putting them first with grace and strength.
Mother Green was a dedicated nurse for over 35 years. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Thomas Nelson Community College and went on to become a Registered Nurse at Hampton General Sentara Hospital, where she faithfully served until her retirement. Her compassion, professionalism, and servant’s heart touched countless lives throughout her nursing career.
In addition to her work in healthcare, Mother Green faithfully served alongside her beloved husband, Dr. Ernest Green, Sr., as First Lady of Saint Paul Holiness Church for 27 years. She was a steadfast support to her husband’s ministry and played an instrumental role in helping to establish numerous programs within the church. As a mother in Zion, she was a source of wisdom, kindness, encouragement, and spiritual strength to many. She was truly a woman of God whose life reflected the love and character of Christ.
Mother Green was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 65 years, Dr. Ernest Green, Sr., whom she dearly loved; her son, Apostle Gene W. Boyd; his wife, Carrol Boyd; and her grandson, Nathaniel Ernest Boyd.
She was blessed with seven sons, and leaves a powerful legacy of faith, family, and love:
Apostle Gene W. Boyd (preceded in death) and Carrol Boyd (preceded in death) — blessed with 8 children and 20 grandchildren
Apostle Chester Boyd and Prophetess Colleen Boyd - blessed with 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson
Marvin C. Boyd - blessed with 12 children, 67 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren
Vaughn A. Boyd - blessed with 6 children, 15 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren
Apostle Ernest Green, Jr. - blessed with 3 children and 2 grandchildren
Oris A. Green - blessed with 3 children and 3 grandchildren
Mark E. Green - blessed with 2 children and 1 grandchild
She also leaves behind a host of extended family, church family, and friends. Mother Green and Dr. Green were blessed with a legacy of more than 100 children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her love, kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The family rejoices in the promise of eternal life and takes comfort in the Word of God:
“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:51 - 52
We love you, Mama. You will truly be missed but never forgotten.
Rain and Roses
The rain came softly, as if the sky had learned to whisper your name. Each drop a silver bead of memory, sliding down the cheek of the earth. Roses stood in the garden, their heads bowed, not from the weight of rain, but from the knowing that beauty, too, must one day be gathered by God not gone, but carried in the scent, the softness, and the endless, tender rain.
