Mario A.
Jones, Jr.
d. Apr 18, 2025
Mario Antron Jones, Jr., 26, o f Norfolk, Virginia, departed this earthly plane to be with the Lord on Friday, April 18, 2025. A man of many names, Mario was known by his many loved ones as "Marr," "Rio," "TronTron," and "Tiger."
Mario was born in Salisbury, Maryland, on February 20, 1999, to Latysha (Lamont) Chapman (née Trotter) of Salisbury and the late Mario Antron Jones, Sr. of Chesapeake, Virginia. In addition to his father, Mario is preceded in death by his great-great-grandmother Geraldine Pierce (Edward) Wilson, great-grandmothers Annie Ruth Jones and Joyce (Ray) Purnell, and his pop-pop, James Brumskin, Jr.
Mario attended New Horizons Regional Education Center in Newport News and graduated from Warwick High School in 2017. He worked for Randstad USA at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, though his true passions were in auto mechanics and restoring vintage cars—a craft he largely taught himself. In February 2021, Mario gave his life to Christ and was scheduled to be baptized on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Diamond Springs Baptist Church, just two days after his passing.
Mario was known for his kind heart, quick wit, joyful spirit, and unforgettable smile. His warmth and laughter were infectious. A natural leader and a cherished role model to his five younger siblings, Mario was deeply devoted to his family. He was especially proud of his role as a husband and father and was filled with excitement about raising his young son and growing his family.
In addition to his mother, Mario leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Virginia Jones (née Rasberry), and their 4-month-old son, Mario Antron Jones III, both of Norfolk. He is also survived by grandparents Yolanda and Van Gholston of Chesapeake, and Nanette Brumskin (née Purnell) of Smithfield; sisters Anaysia Jones of Norfolk and Tamariya Jones of Newport News; brothers Nature Jones of Norfolk, and Jaden Lane and Lamont "Monty" Chapman II of Smithfield; aunt Vann Jessica (Devin) Beale of Richmond; uncle Devon Trotter of Newport News; and a host of cousins, great-aunts and uncles, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
"So it will be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body." 1 Corinthians 15: 42-45
Viewing will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, VA. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2025 at the funeral chapel.
