Obituary

Marie Scippio Glover, 83, passed away on August 10, 2024, in Hampton, Virginia. Born on February 15, 1941, in Florence, South Carolina, she is remembered by her loved ones for her warmth and kindness.

She was an employee of Chase Package Company where she also served as a chairperson of her local Paperworkers Union.

A life-long learner, one of her greatest accomplishments was returning to school and receiving her Bachelor's of Arts Degree in General Studies from Hampton University at the age of 60. Later, she went on to receive her Master's of Education Degree in Administration and Supervision from Strayer University.

She had various hobbies including baking, sewing, and writing. Using her writing talents, she self-published her novel "A Hard Row to Hoe" in 2015.

She was a devout Christian who spent her life serving the Lord and incorporating his teachings into her daily life.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Glover; son, Douglas Glover; parents, Edward and Annie Scippio; sisters, Dorothy Smith, Mary Lee Scippio, Mattie Drew; brothers, John Scippio, Edward Scippio (Buck), Wilbur Scippio (Bobby).

She leaves behind daughters, Vonda Johnson and Leann Walls; sons-in-law, Keith Johnson and Mervin Walls whom she loved as her own sons; grandchildren, Briana Johnson, Mervin Walls Jr, Aaron Johnson, Douglas Glover Jr, Michael Walls, Jordan Glover, Lauren Glover, and Leah Walls, and a host of loved ones.

Special Requests

At her request, in lieu of flowers, copies of her book "A Hard Row to Hoe" can be purchased anywhere books are sold. Purchases of her book can be donated to schools or the local public library.

Family visitation and viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  Per her request, a graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
