Madgelene Jenkins Conner, aged 83, passed away the morning of December 9, 2023.  She was born in Hayneville, AL on July 11, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Sophia Jenkins.  As a military wife of the late James Conner, Sr., Madgelene lived in many places, but eventually Hampton, VA became her family home.  It was there that she raised her children, worked 27 years and retired at Maida Development Company, served as a long-standing member of Queen St. Baptist Church, and experienced many significant life milestones.

Madgelene was known for her feistiness and strong will, which always led to a meaningful moment and a great laugh.  On the other side of this presence was what her family knew to be her soft -- spot her self-sacrificing nature that would always ensure her loved ones had what they needed, whether it was tangible or through the care she extended.  It was by this love that she will forever be the great matriarch of the Conner family, leaving behind a tremendous legacy.

She is survived by her children Rosiemary "Rosie" Tate (Thomas), James E. Conner, Jr (Vernita), and Darleen Matthews (Michael).  She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Brandi Conner, Nikki Harris, John "Patrick" Burno, Jr., Shaniqua Frazier (Wyndell), James "Phillip" Burno, Keisha Conner, Jamie Conner, Matthew Conner, Adelle "Luth" Tate; and six great-grandchildren: Damoni, Amilya, Kimayah (Patrick); Semaj (Phillip); Joyelle (Nikki); and A'mari (Keisha).

Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  Interment will be in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
