Obituary

On December 2, 2025, Miss Lucille Majorie Woodley, 82 "peacefully" went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the presence of her family and two favorite Deacons.

Affectionately known as "Thomasine, Tommy or Tom", Lucille was born on November 26, 1943 to the late Thomas "Hardy" Mason and Emma Virginia Jones. She was the first born girl to this union. Lucille was a faithful servant of God, she was a dedicated member at New Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she served on the hospitality committee.

Lucille had a heart of gold. She would help people in any way possible. She was a blessed and loved woman of God. She enjoyed shopping for clothes, grocery shopping, attending church and different events. Her favorite football team was the Cowboys and she enjoyed cooking for and entertaining her friends and loved ones with laughter and good hospitality. Lucille was an excellent mother, grandmother, wife, sister, friend and an exceptional "Great Cook". She was known for her famous homemade rolls aka "Tear Drops".

Lucille attended George Washington Carver High School and after 30 years, she retired from Piccadilly as Head Baker. Lucille was a self taught beautician- doing friends and neighbors hair. She became a seamstress, home decorator, and an entrepreneur; selling her soulful dinners all over the peninsula.

Lucille was preceded in death by her paternal parents; Thomas Hardy Mason and Emma Virginia Hobbs, paternal grandmother, Gertrude Jones; her son, Gregory A. Woodley, brothers and sister; James Henry Jones, Gertrude Diana Walker, Herbert Hobbs and husband of 58 years, Ernest Woodley Jr..

Lucille leaves to cherish her three sons and one daughter; Buss SL. Woodley (Orlando, Florida), Ernest Blake Woodley (Newport News, VA), Todd Woodley (Hampton, VA), and Kim Williams (Lorenzo) of Newport News, Va; brother; Samuel M. Hobbs Jr.; six sisters; Gloria Lassiter, Cornelius Jones (Matthew), Brenda Hobbs, Patricia Dixon, Catherine Miles (Lawrence), Sally Mae Hobbs (Jamie); three sister-in-laws; Delois Lee (Newport News, VA), Marie Cooper (Chesapeake), Betty Woodley-James (Newport News, VA); grandchildren; Cheina Woodley (Atlanta), Tony Lee (Newport News, VA), Lamar Butler (Newport News, VA), Kiara Woodley-Burke (Mario) of Newport News, VA, and Alexander Williams of Newport News, VA; adopted grandchild, Denise Kinard of North Carolina; great grandchildren; Keontae' J. Burrell, Kamarie Burke, and Anayla Rose Williams of Newport News, VA; special cousins, Elizabeth "Liz" McClinton, Rhonda Graves, Stevie Hatchett and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Viewing will be held Friday, December 12, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. A celebration of life service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2025 at  New Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 66 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, Va. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
