Leroy Green, Sr., "Dad, Papa" , transitioned on March 27, 2024, quietly in his home.  He was born June 21, 1929, to Columbus and Verline Green in Newport News, Virginia.

Leroy was always full of joy and laughter and was an amazing cook.  He enjoyed working and was still employed by Food Lion on Pilot House Drive in Newport News.  Leroy was dedicated and very accountable to his job with Food Lion and had been employed there for forty-seven (47) years.  Leroy was in the Grocery Store business for over sixty (60) years; working with Rick's Grocery on Wickham Avenue and the Colonial Store on Hampton Avenue, both in Newport News.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Columbus and Verlene Green; his wife of 37 years, Dorothy Green; his daughter, Darolyn Owens; and his grand-son, Bryan Carolina.

Leroy leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy two sons; Minister of Music Leroy Green, Jr. and Elder David Green from his previous marriage to Geraldine Green; five daughters, Prophetess Idelia Haynes, Minister Rose Johnson, Emma Maxwell (Walter), Mary Johnson and Minister Frankie Douglas (Edward); 11 Grandchildren; 8 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Viewing will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. 23607. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
