Obituary

LEON ADDISON SPENCER, SR.

February 27, 1932 – September 4, 2023

Leon Addison Spencer, Sr. , affectionately known as Spencer, 91, of Hampton, VA passed away on September 4, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on February 27, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Spencer dedicated 23 years of his life to the United States Air Force as a Security Policeman.  While in the Air Force, his travels took him and his family to many locations, i.e., Virginia, Korea (Purple Heart recipient), North Carolina, Delaware, England, and California.

After retiring from the military, while in California, he worked for the correctional system at the CA Medical Facility, until retiring once again. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who made valuable contributions to his profession.  He also was a proud member of the Tri City Masonic Lodge #1662.

Spencer's true passion in life was spending time with his family.  He cherished every moment with them and found joy in their company. Spencer was preceded in death by his one true love, Regina Spencer, his son David Spencer, his parents Lonnie and Zanana Spencer, his brother Milton Spencer, his sister Doris Greene, and his cherished sisters-in-law, Lena, Beatrice, Thelma, Mabel, and Jean.

Spencer is survived by his daughters; Stephanie McLemore, Karen Spencer, Lori Spencer-Chung (Chad), as well as his sons; Leon Spencer, Jr. (Wendy), Lonnie Spencer, and Mark Spencer.  He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, his brother David Spencer, his brother-in-law Reginald Saunders, Jr., and many nieces and nephews.  Thank you to Diane Spencer-Carr and Jean Brown for the countless visits and keeping their Uncle Spencer entertained.

May his legacy of love and dedication to his family live on.
