Obituary

Lenwood Lamar Lumpkins Sr. was born in Hampton Virginia April 25, 1966, to Catherine Billups Roberts and the late George M. Lumpkins.

Lenny was baptized and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age where he participated in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Lenny graduated from Hampton High School in 1985, as a Parade All-American and Bally All-American football player, he attended the University of Virginia and Hampton University where he was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Incorporated.

Lenny was a man of tranquil spirit and quiet strength whose calm demeanor and inner fortitude touched all who knew him.  His life was characterized by his deep devotion to his family whom he loved and supported unwaveringly. He was a cornerstone of support, embodying the essence of a dedicated family man.  Milestone events and holidays were important to Lenny. His children were his pride and joy and he enjoyed celebrating their every accomplishment. He could be found caring for his lawn, washing the cars, and caring for his Bully Pitt, son's Cane Corso and daughter's Frenchie dog.  He also enjoyed opening the pool every May and assisting Cheri with her annual Christmas tree decorating in October. Lenny shared his athleticism and passion for coaching with the Hampton Tornados Little League football team for many years. As Coach Lumpkins, he imparted his athletic prowess, modeled good sportsmanship and shaped them into young men.

Lenny is preceded in death by his father, George M. Lumpkins and sister Gail Amanda Sanders.

Lenny leaves to cherish his memory and live out his legacy his beloved wife, Yolandis Cheri Thornton Lumpkins; devoted children Lenwood Lamar Lumpkins, Jr. and Chelsi Cheri Lumpkins; loving parents, Catherine and Isiah Roberts; brothers, George A. Lumpkins, Sr. (Nicole), Keith Custis, Sean and Troy Lumpkins, aunts and uncles, James Billups (Carolyn), Randolph Billups (Betty) Marvin Billups (Gloria), Eric Billups (Rebe), Kevin Dorsey (Towana) and James Dorsey, Aunt Margo Frison, Rhonda Williams (Issac) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lenny left this earth far too soon for us, but he lived a life filled with love, surrounded by family who cherished him.
