Lee
Clark
d. Aug 10, 2023
Lee "Pops" Clark was called home to eternal rest on August 10, 2023. He was born to the late Major T. Clark and Queen Isabell Adams Clark on February 9, 1943, in Newport News, VA. He is predeceased by his parents, wife of 44 years Geraldine "Dine" Kelley Clark, sister Lila Jane Atkins, and brother Major Allen Clark. Lee was educated in the Newport News Public School System. He served his country during the Vietnam War and completed one tour of duty at Fort Eustis Army Base. After being honorably discharged, Lee remained in Newport News and worked several jobs until he found his career as a fisherman. He eventually worked his way up through the ranks from a Deckhand to Captain. This amazing accomplishment was rewarded by Lee receiving his first scallop boat, "The Miss Manny." This allowed him to start charting his course on the open seas as one of the only African American Captains in the fleet.
In 1979, Lee married the love of his life "Dine," and together they started their new blended family. He loved his family and would often play cards, joke, and make us laugh. He was passionate about R&B music and working on his phenomenal state-of-the-art stereo equipment. Pops also did not mind sharing his music with the family and the neighborhood. Pops had a big heart and an even bigger personality. His favorite pastime was attending to his many aquariums and caring for his fish. He will be deeply missed by all.
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters Renee Peoples, and Lavern Ferguson; sons Purnell Clark, Herbert Clark, and Richard Clark; step-daughters Yolanda C. Kelley, Grace A. Lewis, Geraldine M. Kelley, Carolyn A. Ellison (Ashford), and Linda D. Stokes (Michael); step-sons William L. Kelley, Jr., Fernando L. Kelley (Thomasine), Floyd A. Kelley, and Antone L. Kelley; sister Patricia Temple; brother Johnnie Clark; sister-in-law Margaret Banks; brothers-in-law Alfred Crews (Phyllis) and Thomas Banks (Barbara) and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren; great-grandchildren; cousins, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 21, 11:00 am at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 2700 Parish Ave, Newport News, VA 23607
