Kenny's Journey

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Kenneth Hicks entered into internal rest at WaterView Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hampton, Va.  Kenneth, also known as "Kenny," "Kenny Boo", and "Brother" was born on September 20, 1947 to the late Thomas Hicks, Sr. and Bernice Oliver Hicks Christian.  He was a lifelong resident of the Tidewater area; He attended Huntington High School, Newport News, VA.  Kenny retired from the U.S. Army and The Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

Kenny loved being around his family and friends unless they got on his nerves in a nice way!  He would visit just to socialize, and enjoyed having everyone sit around Club 19 (19th Street) having cocktails, playing Pinochle, Dominoes, Crazy 8s and other games.  He loved music, watching his westerns, sports and traveling to Maryland, Atlantic City, Las Vegas and other places just to get away, relax, and have some "me" time.  He did not like a lot of confusion or disorder and would give everyone whatever they asked for just for them to leave him alone and let him have some peace.  He was a happy-go-lucky person who loved to dress and enjoyed life.

He loved Christmas and Thanksgiving because he knew "Sister" was going to cook a big meal for him.  He was one of her favorites, and in her eyes he could do no wrong (Laugh out Loud).  He was her pride and joy.  Kenny also loved his friend Carrie Canada (deceased), who was just like his sister and would also prepare those good ole home-cooked meals for him.

Kenny was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to us all.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters:  Adreine "Susie" Sellers, Kendall Baney and Karen Hicks, of Newport News, VA., His sister Deborah D Christian, Laurel MD; brothers: Tyrone Christian and Douglas Person, Newport News, VA, and William Christian, Jr., Hancock, NY;  7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, bonus son, Derrick Jones, "special loving sister" Mary Davis; and "special loving friend" friend Stacy Wilson, special nephew, Adonnis "Ty" Shakur, special brother Dexter Brown and his brother-in-law Rick VanBuren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents, Kenny was predeceased by his wife, Ethylone "Ethel", his sister, Ethel "Sister" Hicks-Broadnax, and his brothers; Thomas, Sr. (Hickey), Cornelius (Con), Daniel (Bro. Daniel) and Edward (Leon) Hicks.

Kenny's memories will forever live in our hearts.  He was a very loving, warm hearted and wonderful person that would take care of the world if he could and will surely be missed!

As he always said: I LOVE THE WORLD.

Sorrowfully submitted, the Family
