Jurline
Whitney
d. Sep 7, 2025
Jurline Whitney, 86, departed this life on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Northampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hampton, Virginia, after a chronic illness. Born in Wakefield, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Pearl Young.
For decades, Jurline faithfully operated Whitney's Daycare from her home, where she nurtured and cared for countless children. Families throughout Hampton and beyond entrusted their little ones to her care, knowing that each child would be welcomed with love, patience, and guidance. Many of the children she cared for grew to bring their own children back to her, a testament to the lasting trust and devotion she inspired.
In addition to her work as a devoted child caregiver, Jurline was employed as a medical receptionist at the former Whitaker Memorial Hospital in Newport News and later at the HOPE Medical Center in Hampton. In both roles, she brought warmth and kindness to every person she encountered.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Wester Mae Johnson (Pat) and Essie Mae, and by her brothers Curley Young and Wilfred Young Jr., and granddaughter Erica
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 66 years, Marvin E. Whitney; three sons, Elwood (Woody) Whitney (Willette) of Virginia Beach, VA, Rodney B. Whitney of Snellville, GA, and Dr. Deran R. Whitney (Conjo) of Stephens City, VA; one daughter, Dr. Cynthia D. Evers of Alexandria, VA; five granddaughters, Amber, Alexandria (Ali), Chelsea, Alexis, and Gracie; and three great-granddaughters, Tatum, Autumn, and Sai'Ana. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
The family will receive friends for a viewing on Monday, September 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Home, 1601 27th Street, Newport News, VA. A funeral service will begin immediately afterward at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Rd, Hampton, VA.
