Obituary

Juanita McGlone-Jones 80, died Tuesday, Jan 16, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Hampton, VA, and educated in Hampton & Newport News public school systems. She attended Union Street School, YH Thomas Junior High, Huntington High, and Phenix High School where she was a Majorette in the marching band.

She was a member of Miracle Temple Baptist Church for over 40 years where she served on many committees. Her favorite was the Kitchen Ministry. She became a deaconess in her later years.

She was joined in marriage to Deacon James Jones, Jr. in 2013.

She held numerous jobs including her lifelong career and her most cherished as a health care giver and foster parent.

She enjoyed all sports. Especially watching her sons and grandchildren play. She was a softball fanatic and played until she was about 60 years of age. She played a pitcher on many teams including women's and coed teams, some alongside her children. In the softball community, she was affectionately known by everyone as "Moms." Later in life, her favorite pastime was sitting in front of a dozen steamed blue crabs and watching the Westerns.

She was preceded in death by her parents Cherry Daniels Taliaferro and William Taliaferro, Sr., and stepmother, Sophie E. Williams. Brothers James Taylor, William, Jr. Alonzo, and Edward Lee, Sr. Survived by one sister, Cherry A. Johnson, of Lauren, S.C., and children, Dr. Davenna Young (Rev. William Young), Paul (Erica), Joseph (Michelle), Velva Battle, Clifton (Sharon), & Carl McGlone and over 50 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild collectively, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

In her own words, she left final statements to share with the family:

"To my Husband James - Thank you for taking care of me. You were a good husband and I thank you for being there for me when you did not have to be."

"To all my grandchildren and children, may God forever richly bless you. Thank you for being my grandkids and great-grands."

"Dee - Thank you for taking care of me and being there."

"Imani - My first great-granddaughter, you have made me proud of you. Thank you for continuing school and finishing your degrees."

"My four sons, Paul, Joseph, Clifton, and Carl - Thank you for being there and respecting me and being my boys."

"Jamar/Cheylon - Thank you for always making me laugh."

"Michelle & Vonita- You will always be my daughters-in-law"

"Thank you to all the Deacons who called to check on me. Thank you to my best buddy Deacon Dove."

Viewing be held  from 10 am to 11 am , Friday, January 26, 2024 at Miracle Temple Baptist Church, 617-32nd Street, Newport News, Va, with funeral services  starting at 11:00 am.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
