Obituary

Joyce Ann Sanders (Richardson)

March 5, 1941 – October 1, 2023

On Sunday, October 1,  2023, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother entered into eternal rest to be with the Lord.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ray Sanders, father, Omega Richardson Sr., mother, Francis Richardson, brothers, Omega Richardson Jr., William Thomas, and James Edward Richardson, sisters, Lillie Mae West, Hazel Clark, Carolyn Thompson, son, Cary Henry, son-in-law Michael Jackson, and bonus grandson, Michael Darden Jr.

Joyce, affectionately known as "Grandma", was born in Wake County, NC.  She is remembered for her tremendously kind heart, inner and outer beauty, and infectious laugh!  Her beautifully generous spirit lit up and consumed every space she filled and intentionally inspired others to be a better version of themselves.

Joyce retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock after 26 years of service as a welder and ship fitter and was known to be a hard worker.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Phyllis Jackson, Brenda Walker (Kenneth), Dorine Richard-Boone (Larry), three sons, Thomas Henry (Shona), Bobby Sanders (Latarie), and Kevin Sanders (Aundrea). Four grandsons, Thaddeus Henry, Stephen Lee, Cary Snead,  and O'Shea Jones, twelve granddaughters, Arianna Henry, Shawnia Henry, Tier-ra Brister (De'Ryan), Portia Henry and Ashley Henry, Kaneka and Raia Walker, Creshena Scott (Travis), Keyona Wilson (Larry), Indya Boone, Kayla and Asia Sanders.  Eleven great grandchildren Myaja Swinton (Lonnie), Tayjah Jones, Taija and Tayjia Lee,  Michael Rosinski, Sinaiyah Henry, Makayla Shuler, Trinity Richard-Goard, Cai Scott, Chloe and Ryan Brister, great grandchildren, Jordyn, Jonah, Nahni, Larry and Kenny and a host of nieces, nephews along with her bonus son Michael Darden and his son, Christon Darden.
