Obituary

With profound sorrow and enduring love, we announce the passing of Our beloved mother, Josphine Diggs Thomas White who left our midst to answer the Master's call December 8, 2025.

Born September 28, 1943, in Warwick County (Newport News) Va to the late Joseph Thomas and Helen Diggs Freeman.  Josephine was educated in the Newport News Public Schools and a graduate of George Washington Carver High School. On June 9, 1962, she married Jeremiah White Sr, From their union of 32 years three children were born. Lolita Wilkins, Jeremiah White Jr and Donna White.

Josephine began her employment with Dixie Hospital/Hampton General Hospital (Sentara Careplex) devoting 35 years to the Food/Nutrition Departmen, retiring in 2005. Following retirement, she devoted 8 years to the Peninsula Foster Grandparent Program. A woman of deep faith, she was a cherished member of Greater Bethlehem Christian Assembly, where she served as an Usher until her illness.

A generous and wise woman with a great sense of humor, Josephine triumphed over many health challenges as she journeyed through life with an unwavering faith and resilience in the lord.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Charlie Freeman Sr, Stepmother Mary Francis Graham, Grandson Tyrique Moore, Great granddaughter Michaela C. Robinson; three sisters, Anne Fauntleroy, Louis Lynch and Geraldine Blackwell; three brothers, Charlie Freeman Jr, David Graham and Wilbert Lynch; three brothers-in-law, Horace Fauntleroy, Robert Gray, Linwood Jones and Alvin Lymon.

Josepine leaves behind to honor and cherish her memories three children, Lolita Wilkins (Samuel) of Oxon Hill, MD., Jeremiah White Jr. (Cindy) of Hampton, Va., Donna White (Roosevelt) of Suffolk, Va.; Bonus son, Fleming Moore (Donna) of Richmond, Va.; twelve grandchildren, Michael Robinson (La Tay), Jeri Lawson, Samantha Wilkins, Malik Brown (Brianna), Monique White, Jeremiah White III, Ashley Moore, Nicholas Moore, Von Greene, Andre Greene, Jordan Greene, and Jaylen Greene; Twenty-one great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Ten Brothers, Cleveland (Linda) Freeman, Steve (Robin) Freeman, Elder Dan (Elder Margaret) Freeman, James (Linda) Freeman, Otis Freeman, Stanley Freeman, Ernest Graham Jr, Sylvester Graham, Thomas (Elder Sharon) Draper, Charles (Tracy) Graham; Seven sisters, Opal Jones, Cleo Lymon, Alice Gray, Helen (Kenneth) Charity, Magnolia Freeman and Lula "Marie" Clinton; special niece, Verna Lymon; nephew, Stacy Moore; special cousins, Shirley Mae Carey, Cecelia Thomas; and an exceptional friend, Linwood Washington. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Like to acknowledge Innovage Care Team for their expertise and compassionate care. Their services made a significant impact!

Though Josephine is no longer here physically, her spirit lives in our hearts forever. As we say our final goodbyes, let us remember her not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the precious time we had together.

Viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the Celebration of Life service starting at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
