After a long illness the Lord called Joseph Orie, Jr. home on May 15, 2024.

Born on November 25, 1939 to the late Joseph (Pap) Orie Sr. and Amanda Orie in Newport News, Virginia, he graduated from Huntington High School in 1959 where he excelled in both Football and Baseball.  He later attended North Carolina A&T University.

Active in the community, Joseph coached little league football at the Hampton Roads Boys Club and was an active member of the Dochiki Social and Civic Club and St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church where he volunteered as an usher.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Brenda Orie; children, Jay Orie and David Orie (Nancy); grandchildren, Justin Orie (Lily), Phillip Leonard and Victoria Orie; uncle, Dillon Witherspoon and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 230-33rd Street, Newport News, Virginia.  His remains will be interred in the columbarium at St. Jerome's Catholic Church on Denbigh Blvd in Newport News.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the Riverside and VHS Hospice staff for the love and care given him during his illness.  Additionally, the family would like to thank Ms. Amy Knight who helped care for him and Ms. Sallie Lee who lovingly sat with him so his wife could still attend church and personal appointments.
