On the evening of Thursday September 23, 2021, God saw fit to call home our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend.

Jesse L. Wright Sr. was born on August 17, 1932 to Joseph Wright and Bettie Wright in Henderson N.C, Vance County.  He attended Henderson County Public Schools.  After school in 1952 he enlisted in the United States Army for 2 years and he also served in the Army Reserve for 8 years.  On May 2, 1955, he married the love of his life Mary M. Artis and from that union three children were born.  In 1958 he was employed with Newport News Shipbuilding, retiring after 34 years of employment in September 1992.

He was a member of Perfecting Saints Ministries Int'l and Church in Hampton, VA under his son Apostle James Wright.  He enjoyed spending time with his family eating three scoops of ice cream, he also enjoyed watching sports, Judge Joe Brown, Family Feud and playing the lottery.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Annie Ruth Allen, and son Jessie L. Wright Jr. (Buck).

He leaves to cherish his fond memories, His wife of 66 years Mary M. Wright.  Children James W. Wright, (Francine), Juanita Wright.  Two sisters Isadora Thorpe, Fannie Terry (James).  Seven Grandchildren: James L. Wright (Tamika), Kevin D. Wright (Cherie), Candace N. Wright, James J. Wright Sr. (LaToya), Eric M. Wright, Jessica M. Wright, Shayla D. Wright, a special friend Dimitris Wiley.  Eleven Great Grandchildren: Alexandria Wright, Tyler Wright, Logan Smith, Kiana Wright, Jaleah Wright, Layla Wright, James J. Wright Jr ((3j), London Wright, Janiyah Wright, Dimitris (Dj) and a host of other relatives and friends.  Special Neighbors/friends Dexter and Debra Hankins, Benford Williams, Marty and Butch, and Gayle Holloman.

Viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October  6, 2021 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Ivy Baptist Church in Newport News, VA.  Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. Masks must be required during the viewing.  Masks and temperature checks will be required during the homegoing celebration.
