Janice V.
Logan
d. Dec 16, 2025
Janice Viola Logan , age 70, was called home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2025. "She has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, and she has kept the faith. Now there is reserved for her the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give her on that day." — 2 Timothy 4:7–8
She was born on September 18, 1955, in Newport News, Virginia, to the late Alton N. Askew, Sr. and Demaris T. Askew. She was one of five children and the only daughter. Her childhood among four brothers helped shape her strong and independent spirit. She graduated from Ferguson High School in 1973 and later attended Virginia State University.
Janice's professional life was a testament to her hard work and her heart for people. Whether she was navigating her early roles at Howard University or breaking records at MCI, she brought her best to everything she did. During her tenure at MCI, her excellence was recognized frequently; she was a 10-time MCI Club winner and ranked among the top 10% of sales reps in the region. However, her true passion for service shone brightest in her roles at Everest College and Riverside College of Health Sciences. She took immense pride in her work with students at Riverside, where her guidance and encouragement helped many find their own paths to success.
Janice was the mother of three daughters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She found joy in visits, conversations, and sharing life's milestones with them. Her love for them was deep and enduring.
Her hands and heart were busy with hobbies she loved. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and gardening, creating handmade treasures for family and friends. She was a loud and proud Dallas Cowboys fan, cheering for her team every football Sunday. She could easily be spotted in Cowboys apparel, shouting "We Dem Boyz" after a big win. A woman of faith, Janice was a member of New Beech Grove Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the mature adult's ministry and choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton N. Askew Sr. and Demaris T. Askew, and her brothers, Eric Askew and Alton N. Askew, Sr. She is survived by daughters, Krystina N. Feliciano-Chandler (André), Crystal D. Verdelotti (Tony) and Janée Moore (Mack); her brothers, Michael Askew and Jerry Askew; her sisters-in-law, Laureen Askew (Alton) and Faith Askew (Eric); her grandchildren, Gabriella "Mina" Bond (Dylan), Victoria Feliciano, Gianna Verdelotti, and Jack Moore; and great-grandchildren, Kaylah McCullough and Demaris Bond, as well as a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews. She leaves behind several special cousins and a devoted circle of friends whose laughter and loyalty created a lifetime of wonderful memories.
A special thank you to the care team at Riverside Regional Medical Center. We are forever grateful for the dignity, warmth, and grace you showed Janice during her time in your care.
A celebration of life service will be held on December 27th at 11 a.m. at New Beech Grove Baptist Church, 361 Beechmont Dr., Newport News.
We find comfort in knowing that Janice has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," and now rests in the peace and presence of her Savior.
