James Louis
Towns
Aug 31, 1952 — Mar 28, 2026
James Louis “JT” Towns, age 73, peacefully exchanged his cross for a crown on March 28, 2026. Born on August 31, 1952, he lived a life rooted in love, strength, faith, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
James was educated in the Newport News Public School System and proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. His service was a reflection of the discipline, courage, and honor that would continue to define the way he lived his life and cared for those around him.
A devoted fan of the Washington Commanders, JT found joy not only in the game, but in the fellowship and laughter it brought with family and friends. He treasured every moment spent with his loved ones especially his children and grandchildren filling their lives with laughter, wisdom, and unconditional love. Known for his warm spirit, infectious smile, and compassionate heart, JT had a remarkable ability to uplift others and be a steady presence whenever he was needed.
Above all, James was a man of deep and abiding faith. He gave his life to Christ and trusted in Him from sunrise to sunset. His life stands as a testament to perseverance, grace, and unwavering belief. Through it all, he continued to trust God.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mrs. Anita L. Towns; his parents, Mr. James Luther Towns and Mrs. Bessie Rene Johnson Towns; his sisters, Hope and Ray Justine Towns-Stith; and his brother, Gregory.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving siblings: Rex (Sherry) Towns, Gary Towns, Quintin (Carolyn) Towns, Andre Towns, Keith Towns, Agnes (James) Perry, E. Kaye (Stanley) Burnett, and Gladys (Floyd) Turner. He is also survived by his devoted children: Korey (Bella) Outerbridge, Ebony Outerbridge, Marshell Banks, and Shara Banks; and his treasured grandchildren: Messiah Roane, Aiden Stephens, and Asiah Banks, along with a host of extended family and dear friends who will continue to carry his legacy forward.
To his family, he was more than a father he was “Daddy,” “Granddaddy,” Brother, and Uncle. His presence brought comfort, his humor brought joy, and his love was a constant source of strength. The way he cared for his family will forever remain a guiding light in their lives.
“You are missed more than you can ever imagine, especially your smile, your sense of humor, your comfort, and the way you have taken care of us. Thank you for blessing us with your presence and showing us how to be brave. May God keep you close. Watch over us as He has watched over you.”
2 Timothy 4:7–8 (NIV):
*“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing".
