Irlene Benbow
Woodley
d. Feb 22, 2026
Irlene "Earline" Benbow-Woodley transitioned peacefully from this life to eternal rest at her home on February 22, 2026. She was born on February 4, 1934, in Kingstree, South Carolina, to the late Ozzie Brockington and Rosa Davis-Brockington.
At the age of 21, Earline gave her life to Christ and soon after received the gift of the Holy Ghost, a faith that remained the foundation of her life. At the time of her passing, she was a faithful member of Spiritual Aid Way of the Cross Church in Christ (WOTCC) under the leadership of Elder M.L. Ford, Jr.
Earline dedicated over 30 years of service to the school system, where she touched the lives of many students and families throughout her career. Known for her warmth and nurturing spirit, she was affectionately called "Grandma" by many of the students whose lives she impacted throughout the schools where she worked.
She met James E. Benbow in 1948 in Kingstree, South Carolina, and the two later married. Their union was blessed with ten children, creating a large and loving family that would become the center of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Pastor James E. Benbow Sr. and Pastor Harry Woodley Sr.; her sons James Earl Benbow, Arthur Benbow Sr., and Jessie Benbow; and her step-sister Lizzie Mae Brockington.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her children:
Donald Benbow (Pam), Leroy Benbow (Deborah), Barbara DePriest (Leonard), Sarah McDougald, Charles Benbow, Carolyn Clayborne, and Kelvin Benbow (Pat).
She also leaves behind a legacy of love through five generations of grandchildren, along with a host of extended family members and friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. She also leaves to cherish her memory a special nephew, Ozzie Ramsey.
We thank God for the gift of her life and the lasting legacy she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
