Helen Marie Lewis was born on July 27,1938 in York County, Virginia to the late Royal F Carter, Sr. and Lottie Muse Carter.  Helen departed this life in the early morning hours on May 3, 2025, after a lengthy illness, under the watchful eye of her husband Carlyle.

At an early age she accepted Christ and joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir until her health began to decline. Through the years she was employed by several companies, including Ewell and Freeman Seafood Company, York County Public School System, York County Jail and ending her career retiring from the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail after more than 28 years of dedicated service.  Her favorite pass time was talking on the phone and doing word search puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her son Michael E Lewis and siblings Ernest Wright, Sylethia Hawkins, Royal F Carter and Vivian Carter; two stepsons: Aron Richeson and Eugene Richeson.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 30 years Carlyle E Richeson, three daughters Sandra N Howard (Artie deceased) of Lacey WA, Linda Marie Ford (James) of Newport News, VA, Iris E Watson of Newport News, VA; two siblings: Ada White of Hampton, VA and William (Ed) Carter of Yorktown, VA; three stepdaughters: LaVoris Carol Hill (Dexter) of Hampton, VA, Robbie M Saunders (Earl) of Atlanta, GA, Yolanda B West (Kevin) of Oklahoma City, OK and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other caring family members and friends, including Feenie Carter and Kei'shon Keys who were dear to her.

Helen Marie Richeson will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her love and kindness will remain in our hearts forever.

Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va.  A Celebration of Life service will be held 12 Noon Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Shiloh Baptist Church.  Interment will be held in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery.
