Gwendolyn Jean Walker, born November 2, 1943, in Newport News, Virginia to Hattie Parker and Howard T. Bailey.  She passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Gwendolyn gave her life to Christ at an early age and has been a lifelong and faithful member of Messiah Baptist Church.  She attended the Newport News Public School system, graduating from Huntington High School in 1962.  Gwendolyn loved working puzzles, ordering from QVC and going to church on Sunday mornings.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Melvin Walker, Sr.; her siblings, Herbert Bailey, Betti Ann Bailey, Lenora Wardrick, Melinda White, Elnora Wallace, Joyce B. Williams "Mookie".

She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her children: Gwendolyn D. Oglesby (John) of Chesapeake, Va., Melvin R. Walker Jr. of Hampton, Va., and Joy P. W. Riddick of Hampton, Va.; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel.  Entombment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
