Glynnis Jean Jones, 82, peacefully entered eternal rest on April 4, 2026. A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend whose presence brought warmth, kindness, and a quiet strength to all who knew her . Glynnis departed this life leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.
Glynnis attended Huntington High School in Newport News, Virginia. Born with a generous heart and a curious spirit, she lived a life defined not only by personal accomplishments, but by the meaningful connections she built along the way.
After gaining her education, She went on to work for Whittaker Memorial Hospital, Betty Paige Shop, 7-Eleven, and spent many selfless years at Eastern State Hospital where she retired .
Glynnis had a gift for making others feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether through family, friendship, or community, she will be remembered for her strength, unwavering compassion, her sense of humor in both good times and difficult moments, and her ability to find beauty in everything and everyone.
In her free time she loved to play cards, watch game shows, soap operas, law & order, and most importantly hanging out with her family.
Glynnis was preceded in death by her parents; Fred Futrell and Francis Futrell Bailey, siblings; Rosa Grey, Fred Futrell, Robert Futrell, Gloria Green and Patricia Bailey.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories, two daughters, Cynthia Byerson and Theresa Harvin (Howard); grandchildren, Rondell Futrell, Curtis Marrow Jr. (Mia), Theresa Marrow, Ebony Curry, Victoria Byerson, Glynnise Byerson, and Chancy Byerson; fifteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Special thanks to her childhood friend Jessie Johnson and sister-in-law, Jean Jones.
Glynnis will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Viewing will be held Monday, April 13, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th Street, Newport News, Va. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at Victory Life Church ,1741 W. Queen Street, Hampton, Va. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
